Screen Skillnet is pleased to offer Writing the Series Bible with Peter McKenna. This course is being offered free of charge to support the Irish creative screen industries impacted by the ongoing situation with COVID-19.
In this online interactive course, participants will gain insight into writing the TV series bible from writer and showrunner Peter McKenna. 10 participants will be selected to participate. Each participant will be sent a reading list of bibles in advance. During the session Peter will dissect the reading materials to discuss what makes them a success. He’ll guide participants through the following topics:
1) How the function of the Series Bible has changed.
2) Series Bible as a vital step in the creative process.
3) Core elements of a Series Bible.
4) The most important ingredient of Series Bible.
Following the session on May 25th participants will have the opportunity to send a draft of their own bible to Peter and receive feedback from him in a one-to-one session. Sessions will be held after June 3rd – exact date/time to be scheduled with each participant individually.
Tutor Profile
Peter McKenna has written extensively for film, television and stage. He created and acted as showrunner on RED ROCK, a new soap for Irish broadcaster TV3, and alongside has continued his writing services on THE MUSKETEERS for BBC1/BBC America.
Irish television credits include “ON HOME GROUND” (Littlebird/RTE), FAIR CITY (RTE), “LEGEND” (Ice Box/RTE) and “THE CLINIC” (Parallel Productions/RTE), where he was appointed Head Writer and Story Consultant.
In 2009, Peter received both an Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) nomination and Irish Screenwriters & Playwrights Guild Zebbie Award nomination for “Best Television Script”.
Peter has also written and directed two short films “BOVINE”, and “RACING HOMER”, which won the Irish Film Board “Short Cuts Award”. And his critically acclaimed play “MISSING FOOTBALL” received the OZ Whitehead Award for Best Irish One Act Play.
Participant Profile:
This course is aimed at established and emerging television writers who wish to gain further expertise in developing and writing for television drama.
Participants MUST HAVE industry track record with at least two paid professional writing credits (which can be in television or film)
Participants must be prepared to share a draft of their own TV Series Bible with the tutor in order to participate in the feedback session. That draft must be ready to share upon offer of a place.

We would encourage you to mention any projects you are currently working on that you feel would benefit from your inclusion in the course. (PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR DRAFT BIBLES AT THIS STAGE)
